Luckily, I'm not anticipating making another blanket that will require blocking anytime soon. It was a fun project, and I used all but ~30g of the 7th skein of the Cascade 220 Superwash. So close to 1500 yards! It's about 62" in diameter. It was still somewhat wavy after blocking, but I think that's ok.<br /><br />I did a modified 3 row bind off, with only 3 stitches in each yarn over, instead of the 5 called for in the pattern. This used less yarn, and seemed to be much less time consuming than the original bind off.<br /><br />I also recently started a <a href="http://www.knittingschooldropout.com/2008/04/garter_love_1.htm">garter yoke cardigan</a> with 7 balls of plymouth tweed yarn. I finally tracked down the Knit.1 magazine in early February, which has the pattern in it. I bought the yarn around then too, but the blanket took priority for the past couple weeks.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">mine:<br />(I've actually since knitted down to the waist shaping, but haven't taken a more recent picture)<br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4h2te4A_iF1i0xYrmsDfjVvNgzRvaW9nildKNKzmi5qq-SWOSeLnzgPPhDuE8956IqxPttKSXIAvHZeagoPOfLvsW3Ib34zGgKDcsdiDoaXI_dgL0eLHDSYfj2zUAeRMudcXEeiij0M6y/s1600-h/garter+yoke+cardi.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 144px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4h2te4A_iF1i0xYrmsDfjVvNgzRvaW9nildKNKzmi5qq-SWOSeLnzgPPhDuE8956IqxPttKSXIAvHZeagoPOfLvsW3Ib34zGgKDcsdiDoaXI_dgL0eLHDSYfj2zUAeRMudcXEeiij0M6y/s200/garter+yoke+cardi.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318740143648834130" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">from knitting school dropout's blog:<br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2115/2455666298_a841ff1295.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 274px; height: 410px;" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2115/2455666298_a841ff1295.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>The pattern is really well written. And I like the Plymouth Tweed, but one of my skeins had FIVE knotty joins in it. that's right, 5. When there are only 109 yards per ball, I expect FAR fewer knots. A little disappointed about that.<br /><br />I started and restarted my Cotton Bamboo Smock top (Classic Elite pattern - Ravelry link <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cotton-bam-boo-smock-top">here</a>) using Cotton Bamboo in Toasted Almond.<br /><div style="text-align: center;">mine:<br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBPWfIbHJfI4GP11Ty7Q58zOsKq659Q73MpDYvTyKeXzktDyCcUROwtZcPXhKPJsd7BO3c75r1c2hYwhRW-kgl5pgHrkjzleET3byAhyphenhyphena98cn4P8VnPnoBrlvn2ryfMwEme34nBYlxIjrm/s1600-h/bamboo+smock+top.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 148px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBPWfIbHJfI4GP11Ty7Q58zOsKq659Q73MpDYvTyKeXzktDyCcUROwtZcPXhKPJsd7BO3c75r1c2hYwhRW-kgl5pgHrkjzleET3byAhyphenhyphena98cn4P8VnPnoBrlvn2ryfMwEme34nBYlxIjrm/s200/bamboo+smock+top.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318740131989515394" border="0" /></a>It calls for US 3 and 5. I got gauge, but after knitting about 9" of the stockinette body on US5, it appeared to be stretching out a bit. So I ripped back to the bottom and restarted the stockinette with US4. And to make sure it's not too big, I'm doing the cabled part with US2 instead of US3.<br /><div style="text-align: center;">from Classic Elite:<br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.classiceliteyarns.com/dadabik/uploads/CBBSmockTopLg.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 210px; height: 271px;" src="http://www.classiceliteyarns.com/dadabik/uploads/CBBSmockTopLg.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />Then.... from Flying Fingers Warehouse Wednesday a couple weeks ago, I picked up 5 - 200 yd skeins of Farmhouse Yarns Silk Spun Cotton yarn in grey (for only $2.50/each!!). It's a tweedy looking 60% cotton, 32% wool, 8% silk worsted yarn. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwlJJMk0yhn5v83KHcHBXEqL3K66tpimWYW8wZyG-ylY9nLdrM26WvrJ_WwReO6XRB6MtecdLhZ2NRqf5vY8uqvT-bfhmypY5uppEPRuKf8pyeyHNrlsxtuZPI0Cttgq__HtERCaMP5e_v/s1600-h/silkspungreymist.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 198px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwlJJMk0yhn5v83KHcHBXEqL3K66tpimWYW8wZyG-ylY9nLdrM26WvrJ_WwReO6XRB6MtecdLhZ2NRqf5vY8uqvT-bfhmypY5uppEPRuKf8pyeyHNrlsxtuZPI0Cttgq__HtERCaMP5e_v/s200/silkspungreymist.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318740141590697762" border="0" /></a>I'm debating using it to make a <a href="http://kategilbert.com/p_sunrisecircle.html">Sunrise Circle Jacket</a> (and the ravelry link <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sunrise-circle-jacket">here</a>)<br />I think it would work out to be a good substitute... the gauge is 5st/in on US 8, so I could probably get the called for 18st/4in with US9. I found a list of common substitutes <a href="http://sunriseknitalong.blogspot.com/2006/02/what-yarn-to-use.html">here</a> and people have used things like Rowan Summer Tweed which is a silk/cotton blend.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">This will be on the back burner since I want to finish some other more summer-y projects (and the garter yoke cardigan) and hopefully won't be needing long sleeved sweaters too much in a couple weeks.<br /><br />from Interweave Knits:<br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images3cf.ravelry.com/gallery/interweave/500/iwpshopinfo.interweave.com-1sunrisecircle.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 169px; height: 216px;" src="http://images3cf.ravelry.com/gallery/interweave/500/iwpshopinfo.interweave.com-1sunrisecircle.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Meanwhile, I've been busy with my internship & grad assistantship & looking for a job for the fall. There seems to be a decent number of positions in the area, and the school budget vote hasn't even happened yet, so I'm hoping more become available in the next month. Not too many of my classmates are looking in this immediate area, so I'm optimistic about it. I'm very excited to have something featured on the front page for the first time :-)<br clear="all" />RunningOnCoffeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00715671909290199683noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4078896867543637809.post-8572726623283321372009-02-07T19:35:00.006-05:002009-02-07T19:42:26.668-05:00ugh!...thought i was doing well with my Alpaca DROPS turtleneck sweater... I got down to 2" before the end of the sleeve and came to the sad realization that I will probably have to re-do it. I have a little pouchy thing in the armpit from maybe picking up too many stitches under the arm. (See below).<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAzprPRindRGum_PLJCbwrHm78B6Z40BE5ye3abLZGTfHdsqpKOY1seroopR2nsTgstI14sjjcHi0UvpaSnKQSRsebT448jROfCzARXaKQHAeJuzbNk9IVwoo0cpEhVoTSnDbB2FsEHZ69/s1600-h/100_4191.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 159px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAzprPRindRGum_PLJCbwrHm78B6Z40BE5ye3abLZGTfHdsqpKOY1seroopR2nsTgstI14sjjcHi0UvpaSnKQSRsebT448jROfCzARXaKQHAeJuzbNk9IVwoo0cpEhVoTSnDbB2FsEHZ69/s200/100_4191.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300219295153383570" border="0" /></a>It may not be totally noticeable if you're not looking for it, but it will bother me, and I might as well do this right. So I will try the other arm differently to see if I can get rid of that before I rip this arm out. I had hopes of wearing the sweater on Monday or Tuesday before we left for Florida, but it will have to wait til mid-February now. Oh well!<br /><br /><br />In other news, I realized I was sent the wrong color from Fabulousyarn - for my Plymouth Homestead. So I brought it to their attention and they sent me the correct color (the darker one) and a prepaid label to return the lighter color. I'm a little bit torn now though, I hope the darker color isn't too dark to show off some of the cables on the assymetrical cardi, but I don't want to be annoying and send back the yarn I made a stink about to begin with. I think I like the darker color better anyway...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiHEJ-gYd7awpcrg5b9WOxd734eNbTEIPrr_TbJ4Kv5PeWouYQKbkNfUc94CcD6oKp6vNs4q-py8zcRgJfkeiC29kD-IPW2JsobfPW4-l6AOJbB9ssJ8Ovo6JmAlJYia2IqO0TLChAe7_j/s1600-h/100_4173.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 143px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiHEJ-gYd7awpcrg5b9WOxd734eNbTEIPrr_TbJ4Kv5PeWouYQKbkNfUc94CcD6oKp6vNs4q-py8zcRgJfkeiC29kD-IPW2JsobfPW4-l6AOJbB9ssJ8Ovo6JmAlJYia2IqO0TLChAe7_j/s200/100_4173.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5300219298734143618" border="0" /></a>RunningOnCoffeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00715671909290199683noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4078896867543637809.post-33540018591391857062009-02-01T11:41:00.006-05:002009-02-01T12:13:26.039-05:00Airplane KnittingWe're going to Florida to visit my in-laws (it's weird to say that) Feb 10th - 15th.<br /><br /><div><div><div><div><div>I haven't yet decided what knitting project to bring with me!</div><div> </div><div>I have a problem in that several of my current works-in-progress are not the most portable. Or they might take up my entire carry-on. For example my Hemlock Ring throw:<img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 414px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 391px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://images4cf.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/4985714/blanket_medium.jpg" border="0" /></div><div>I have used 3 full skeins of Cascade 220 Superwash so far (4 more to go). I'm up to round 103 on the chart I think, so it's getting kind of big. Last time I measured I estimated I had over a 3' diameter, but I've done probably 10+ rows since that point. So anyway, that option is out. </div><div> </div><div>My other project is the Alpaca DROPS pattern with the turtleneck, I only have the sleeves left, as I mentioned recently - and I'm hoping to finish those before we leave.</div><div> </div><div>The Somewhat Cowl just needs the neck sewn on, so that's not enough to be worth bringing with me.</div><div> </div><div>Another option: </div><div>I wanted to knit a little something for one of my friends whose birthday is coming up and I decided on a scarf. So I went to Pins and Needles the other day, and found this Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Sport on sale for 25% off! (Despite the name, it's DK weight).<img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 305px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 436px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://images4cf.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/4873437/100_4017_medium.jpg" border="0" />I would have liked to have used the BSA Suri Merino I have previously mentioned, but can't really swing $32 for the 2 skeins I'd need for a scarf at the moment. So I was happy to find this stuff, which is almost as soft and it ended up coming to ~$12 for the 2 skeins (and then I had a $20 off coupon, which made those 2 skeins and a set of needles practically free!) Anyway, I think I decided on this pattern, the <a href="http://www.midnightpurls.com/2006/08/free-pattern-diagonal-lace-scarf.html">Diagonal Lace Scarf </a>by Helena Frank. </div><div><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 308px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 446px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v94/hotpinksugar/Diaganollacescarf.jpg" border="0" /></div></div></div></div></div><br /><p>People on Ravelry seem to think this scarf can really roll though, so I might try a different edging, like the one on my <a href="http://featherandfan.wordpress.com/patterns/the-prismatic-scarf/">Prismatic Scarf</a>, where there's a knitted-in I-cord edging to prevent rolling instead of the garter stitch shown. </p><p>My only reservation is that her birthday is while we will be away, and I would have liked to give it to her before we leave, but I'll just have to give it to her a few days late when we get back.</p><p>This will definitely be portable, but I'm concerned I will finish it too fast and have nothing to knit on our way back Sunday night.</p><p>So, here's a project that wouldn't be tooo too big.<br />I came across this DROPS pattern the other day and I like it, "<a href="http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=111&d_id=7&lang=us">111-7 Drops jacket with raglan in silke-alpaca</a>"</p><p><img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 292px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 471px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://images4cf.ravelry.com/uploads/tommeknits/5014120/7-2_medium.jpg" border="0" />I was thinking since my second Anthro-inspired capelet has been sitting in a basket for approximately the last year (largely due to the fact that I knit past the bust and forgot to put any button holes along the way) - Maybe I could rip it out (It's Knit picks Shine Worsted in Black) and turn it into the DROPS pattern. <img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 436px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 324px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2361/2364248478_8aca7a7d65.jpg" border="0" />Looks like I have enough yardage, I already know the gauge of the yarn, and it's seamless. I know wearable-items aren't necessarily the best for travel knitting, but I don't have any other scarves I need to make, and all the other items on my to-do list are larger.</p><p>Anyway, I think that's my plan for now.</p>RunningOnCoffeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00715671909290199683noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4078896867543637809.post-81590541636839923012009-01-29T21:35:00.005-05:002009-01-29T21:50:00.492-05:00Next up...So, I have found a new project for my Plymouth Homestead yarn I bought a month and a half ago...<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggcfMfrEEnSQ_AupsJK3jbJ_Fd-IJzgeHAKhKDF7nEZA6vFKE1fYwwvaPwLFEvMi8CWmEf__K6cP7UoEgTUbE3YhAT8DF0q01FwF1ZLbof-8HuLxTqnkjSy9Zo3sK6NH9qsNxijcT9fXQq/s1600-h/plymouth.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 171px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggcfMfrEEnSQ_AupsJK3jbJ_Fd-IJzgeHAKhKDF7nEZA6vFKE1fYwwvaPwLFEvMi8CWmEf__K6cP7UoEgTUbE3YhAT8DF0q01FwF1ZLbof-8HuLxTqnkjSy9Zo3sK6NH9qsNxijcT9fXQq/s200/plymouth.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296910485807971170" border="0" /></a>The <a href="http://www.bitterpurl.com/asymmetrical_cable_cardi/">Assymetrical Cabled Cardi</a> (<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/asymmetrical-cabled-cardi">ravelry link</a>)<br />Here's a pic from the author's blog if you don't feel like opening the link to the pattern.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.bitterpurl.com/images/malabrigo%20cardi.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 258px; height: 202px;" src="http://www.bitterpurl.com/images/malabrigo%20cardi.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />And here's another, from Ravelry user CelticCastOn. I think it turned out really well:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3164/3087754309_e67d24414b.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 272px; height: 500px;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3164/3087754309_e67d24414b.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />The only thing is, I'm trying to decide if I want the bulk of it to be reverse stockinette, as written, or stockinette. I'm not usually a huge fan of the purl-side of things, as I think it usually makes garments and myself look bulkier. Any thoughts?? Maybe I'll knit up a swatch and see if it helps make up my mind.<br /><br />I'm really proud of myself for finding a yarn I already have that I can use for this project instead of buying something new. <br /><br />Even though I was tempted to buy something super nice like Blue Sky Suri Merino which I am still in love with after knitting the textured shawl with it... but I'd need like 5 skeins of it... x $16 = way too much when I'm at an unpaid internship and a low paying hourly grad assistantship for 5 more months. I'll have to wait til I get a real job...<br /><br /><br />In other news,<br />Here's the DROPS sweater, I bound off the bottom. Now for the sleeves.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmMwPsP4J6-q-AVibkrYzd9DBZVoEFLzbtclzM-GtL1tYtIX8zICEiOP8uvznPvO7Al7q4CP25eojVNo_LLP2HPA06kx_h9lgo5l459UV2qIk9uRbqyfCGlNoIB0En-ZWLKVGXDkfNXE4y/s1600-h/100_3965.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 172px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmMwPsP4J6-q-AVibkrYzd9DBZVoEFLzbtclzM-GtL1tYtIX8zICEiOP8uvznPvO7Al7q4CP25eojVNo_LLP2HPA06kx_h9lgo5l459UV2qIk9uRbqyfCGlNoIB0En-ZWLKVGXDkfNXE4y/s200/100_3965.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296911236661941682" border="0" /></a>And I've done all but tack down the collar on my Somewhat Cowl:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbpuZpQaVbS_SJ6XlIeyJ3l_6RT-M-KvyKXHbTcyE6jtd0AKSRlWOrhKB13IiHlN6cV9o0mu0k68zwm0cacDGnS0eHnR7DrKYqgbpJttzKMplhDfREd9fTsrJIFI6cGu-bM75w1nzQru9d/s1600-h/100_4020.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 159px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbpuZpQaVbS_SJ6XlIeyJ3l_6RT-M-KvyKXHbTcyE6jtd0AKSRlWOrhKB13IiHlN6cV9o0mu0k68zwm0cacDGnS0eHnR7DrKYqgbpJttzKMplhDfREd9fTsrJIFI6cGu-bM75w1nzQru9d/s200/100_4020.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296911231998878050" border="0" /></a>RunningOnCoffeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00715671909290199683noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4078896867543637809.post-70610805593765360222009-01-20T13:07:00.002-05:002009-01-20T13:20:51.912-05:00My other projectsHere's my Drops turtleneck sweater in Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light, color is buckwheat. I'm nearly to the bottom of the sweater, I have a little over 3" of ribbing at the bottom, and plan to do about 4.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4cf.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/4422868/100_3888_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 210px; height: 351px;" src="http://images4cf.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/4422868/100_3888_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />Here's the picture from the Drops Website, picture should be linked to the pattern on the Garnstudio website.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/visoppskrift.php?d_nr=110&d_id=37&lang=us"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 206px; height: 319px;" src="http://www.garnstudio.com/drops/mag/110/37/37-1.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />Instead of making it in separate pieces as the pattern called for, I'm doing top-down, seamless. I started with the turtleneck, then placed markers for the sleeves and did raglan shaping, eventually put the sleeve stitches on scrap yarn, then continued knitting the body. I'm not making it quite as long as shown in the picture. I'm trying to take decent notes as I knit it, maybe I will post them on here when I am finished if they are coherent enough.<br /><br />I put my Somewhat Cowl aside to work on this - since the Somewhat Cowl will end up with short or 3/4 sleeves and will be a warmer-weather top. I want to get this Drops sweater done in time to wear it a few times this winter before it warms up.<br /><br />My other recent project I've finished was the Textured Shawl courtsey of Ravelry user Orlane's <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/textured-shawl-recipe">Textured Shawl Recipe</a>. I made this with 2 skeins of Blue Sky Alpacas Suri Merino in dusk. Which was a fantastic yarn to knit with. In the 328 yards I knit with, there were NO knots, no weird lumpy joins. It was such a soft yarn to knit with. I'd love to make something else with this yarn in the future, but the yarn is a bit on the pricey side (but worth it!) and that will have to wait until I am out of grad school and have a real job (and income). I plan to wear the shawl to my friend's March wedding. Here's a picture of it blocking, sort of. I've only steamed it so far. I need to do a better job with the blocking and maybe get myself a nice little spray bottle.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4cf.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/4417405/100_3725_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 443px; height: 333px;" src="http://images4cf.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/4417405/100_3725_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>RunningOnCoffeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00715671909290199683noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4078896867543637809.post-484590773011968942009-01-19T23:45:00.002-05:002009-01-19T23:49:34.990-05:00Drops Jacket<span style="text-decoration: underline;"></span>Ta Da! - Here it is. My Drops Jacket, finally finished. I sewed on the last four buttons tonight. I think if I were to do it again, I'd do a couple fewer button holes, but I'm very happy with it. Since this picture, I've finished the sleeves, made the collar, and I un-bound off the bottom because it was flipping up, and I think I wanted more length since I had leftover yarn. I'm adding more double moss stitch instead of just 2 rows then 2 rows of Garter. I've done 6 rows of double moss so far, will probably do a couple more.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjR8Q8GQQAKgYMlimWR2ddD8CCjEgo9P6L6mNEVfMCFtfTKB7kD_uz_UC-J8AvTe7zmNzsgl3eQY757xOAgX9jhRqFlmlug7VbdK_HC-DjORLUp4vNsRxMYJ9828ulOB-QOkZOJQe48Kr2/s1600-h/100_3248.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 202px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjR8Q8GQQAKgYMlimWR2ddD8CCjEgo9P6L6mNEVfMCFtfTKB7kD_uz_UC-J8AvTe7zmNzsgl3eQY757xOAgX9jhRqFlmlug7VbdK_HC-DjORLUp4vNsRxMYJ9828ulOB-QOkZOJQe48Kr2/s320/100_3248.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269451057380760658" border="0" /></a><br />Here's another picture of my Francis Revisited - I don't mean to look grumpy, but it was my 4th attempt of doing the self-timer. See pictures below.<br />Not as much progress as I'd like though. I want to finish it soon so I can wear it before it gets too cold. At least Francis (see previous post) is ready for the cooler weather.<br /><br />Internship + Assistantship + Classes (time spent in them, not so much the workload) is sucking up all of my perfectly good knitting time! And needing to get up at 6am means I should probably go to bed by 11 if I want my brain to work. Doesn't leave much time for fun stuff when I'm at grad school til 10 one night, and 7:30 on two other nights. On the plus side, I am really liking my internship despite it being unpaid (I just try to forget about that part).<br />Anyway:<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2213964/100_2956_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2213964/100_2956_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2214058/100_2958_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2214058/100_2958_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2214078/100_2959_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2214078/100_2959_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>Also finally finished ONE of the convertible fingerless gloves I'm making for the husband. But no picture of that yet.RunningOnCoffeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00715671909290199683noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4078896867543637809.post-85347564995283761592008-10-13T16:37:00.002-04:002008-10-13T16:52:03.466-04:00My Francis is Finished!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2165038/100_2949_medium.jpg"><span style="font-weight: bold;"></span></a>So, I am quite happy to announce that my Francis is finished. 9 days, and 14 skeins of Mirasol Sulka later... here it is. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2165038/100_2949_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2165038/100_2949_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>This picture is kinda dark, I will have to try to take a picture outside during daylight, when it's not 80 degrees out (in NJ... in October!?) Anyway... this is such a warm and cozy sweater and i can't wait to wear it for real in a couple weeks when it cools off. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2165050/100_2948_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2165050/100_2948_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a> Next up is my Drops Jacket in Olive Malabrigo Worsted. No, I'm not throwing gang signs, I needed a way to hold the front closed for the picture. I'm quite proud of myself here... This is my first time using a provisional cast on. With the help of Wendy Bernard's <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Custom-Knits-Designer-Improvisational-Techniques/dp/1584797134">Custom Knits</a> directions for top down non-raglan sweaters, I converted the Drops pattern from button up, needing to be seamed all over the place - to a top down with set in sleeves. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2165573/100_2952_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2165573/100_2952_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>So I had a provisional cast on for the shoulder... knit down to just below the arm shaping, put the stitches on a spare needle, unraveled the provisional cast on, and knit the front down, past the arm shaping, then connected to knit in one piece. I'll post all my modifications once I know if it works out ok!RunningOnCoffeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00715671909290199683noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4078896867543637809.post-4448262199663501092008-10-06T08:31:00.002-04:002008-10-06T08:40:43.979-04:00I <3 FrancisSo, I jumped right on the Francis Revisited pattern Friday night with my Mirasol Sulka. I decided this one was easier to start, because I'll have to play around with the Drops Jacket pattern a bit to make it as seamless as possible.<br />Here's my swatch:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3019/2907407331_55a145da8e.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3019/2907407331_55a145da8e.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>And by Saturday evening I had this much:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2070904/100_2920_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2070904/100_2920_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>Later Saturday night:<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2070898/100_2913_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2070898/100_2913_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>And Sunday before bed I bound off the body! (Nice PJ pants, eh?)<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2077937/100_2930_medium.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px;" src="http://images4.ravelry.com/uploads/MollyWafflesKnits/2077937/100_2930_medium.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />I love it so far, and I can't wait to finish it. I love how it fits so far, it's slim-ish fitting, yet loose enough to wear a tank or a t-shirt underneath. It's going to be an awesome cozy warm sweater. Now I just need size 10 dpns... I found a set from someone who was destashing them on Ravelry this past weekend. (I thought I had 10s, but only have 10.5s...boo). But I may decide today that I am too impatient to wait, and go check out Michaels or JoAnns for a size 10 small circ. needle so I can get a start on the sleeves sooner...RunningOnCoffeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00715671909290199683noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4078896867543637809.post-60988615747834991912008-10-03T17:43:00.003-04:002008-10-03T18:07:36.651-04:00Best Friday Ever.I love getting mail!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2mDjtJ-OnQTQzmKndDH5h02pwoAYMPDJFBU4jeR0XSY91vo6fSY2r0QYLCTNCgXaJ3f22ybvxCDlCDtJW2coVIcINnzvD0VvpXx084avwMoDy4JGMxmXh_dggRcyVUwbUdLs9t1jHMVHH/s1600-h/100_2858.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2mDjtJ-OnQTQzmKndDH5h02pwoAYMPDJFBU4jeR0XSY91vo6fSY2r0QYLCTNCgXaJ3f22ybvxCDlCDtJW2coVIcINnzvD0VvpXx084avwMoDy4JGMxmXh_dggRcyVUwbUdLs9t1jHMVHH/s320/100_2858.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253049562775726274" border="0" /></a><br />Despite always having a couple works-in-progress, I'm planning my next few. And here they are.<br /><br />1. <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/103-1-jacket-in-eskimo-or-silke-alpaca-with-a-shape">Drops Jacket</a>. (ravelry link).<br />2. <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/francis-revisited">Francis Revisited</a>. (ravelry link).<br /><br />After finishing Wicked, I've decided I'm in love with Malabrigo. So I ordered 5 skeins of Malabrigo Worsted in Olive for the Drops Jacket. Long sleeves. Buttons all the way down the front (not just the top). Not so much of the A-line shape, a little more fitted at the bottom.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0wIAK8WYEMCSpcMQZaunUOQyaDRgvK9-efhp94Alq97LiM9XAdBShftpV6frL2fGJ-upbQQFAxOefe2MC9EJJ4gOTOwit0jUK820DuvlXIoswvS-aTpBVigJfbJVn8cAU2_vhG62AnCOS/s1600-h/100_2859.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0wIAK8WYEMCSpcMQZaunUOQyaDRgvK9-efhp94Alq97LiM9XAdBShftpV6frL2fGJ-upbQQFAxOefe2MC9EJJ4gOTOwit0jUK820DuvlXIoswvS-aTpBVigJfbJVn8cAU2_vhG62AnCOS/s320/100_2859.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253049563521870530" border="0" /></a><br />And, from a <a href="http://mollywaffles.blogspot.com/2008/08/im-slacker.html">Ravelry swap</a> about 2 months ago, I received a fantastic little skein of Mirasol Sulka yarn (merino/alpaca/silk) in Cocoa. And also love it. But was having trouble figuring out what to make with 1 skein. (and that 1 skein is only 55 yards). I basically decided I'd have to buy more. And I don't need another shrug at the moment. Nor do I need a plain scarf. But a big squishy warm sweater in this yarn would be fantastic for the winter. So I decided to splurge and get enough for a big sweater. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLw7lSTA0dA_S-ilaiDElGSYYTiFju1qsS4YYKNd3N66SPRPgsGzuhENOiCPqkHB5AqApybuXpkslg5YW-y8hvIt-G2IAwuIkJEaM3Kl_m5IKbSBXHngNkk10mwLFlbjzaOoSwJhnZNeXv/s1600-h/100_2861.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLw7lSTA0dA_S-ilaiDElGSYYTiFju1qsS4YYKNd3N66SPRPgsGzuhENOiCPqkHB5AqApybuXpkslg5YW-y8hvIt-G2IAwuIkJEaM3Kl_m5IKbSBXHngNkk10mwLFlbjzaOoSwJhnZNeXv/s320/100_2861.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253049576646791570" border="0" /></a>So Tuesday, I saw that Verra Yarns (www.verrayarns.com) carries both Sulka and Malabrigo Worsted. And I happened to have a 15% off coupon from my previous label kit order that expired ON Tuesday. So I made up my mind and ordered it. at 10pm Tuesday night. And free shipping with $75 order. Also, I had some difficulties with getting my coupon code to work, emailed them (at 10pm EST) and got a response back in about 10 minutes with a functional code. The next day I got an email that it had shipped to me - I love it!<br /><br />And so the package was on my porch waiting for me when I got home 15 minutes ago. And now I can't decide which to start first. Also I got another skein of Malabrigo in Pearl Ten to make some fingerless mitts for my sister for Christmas. (Pearl Ten on the left).<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOp9MIJyFC-Qt2EFhk4mwffCTEPYVUK0O2Twn546qRav7s6Q2EeyVjMMO9HQ45qAdNtxFXT5DJdMiC3YSWOT-6JV7GJGRgchE2MGr__0J_EKOlSIPpRhHWY0BMejcuWcsf3xA0dVG64RSe/s1600-h/100_2860.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOp9MIJyFC-Qt2EFhk4mwffCTEPYVUK0O2Twn546qRav7s6Q2EeyVjMMO9HQ45qAdNtxFXT5DJdMiC3YSWOT-6JV7GJGRgchE2MGr__0J_EKOlSIPpRhHWY0BMejcuWcsf3xA0dVG64RSe/s320/100_2860.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253049573438635842" border="0" /></a><br />In other knitting news...<br />The textured tunic is no longer. Well, it is taking a nap while I figure out what to do with it. With the weight of the rest of the sweater (I knit all the way to the bottom, bound off) - the box stitch section starts at the fullest part of my chest. It looks funny, and doesn't even deserve a picture. I'm bummed because I got the shaping just right! But alas, I am trying to do the best I can to make my Wicked (zephyr style pattern) with Malabrigo in Rich Chocolate.<img style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3192/2849770362_89fb2c40ee.jpg" border="0" />I'm obsessed with Malabrigo already and this is only my first project with it. I want all of my sweaters to be this soft! This picture is actually from earlier this week, I am about to bind off the body and start the sleeves today. More pictures to follow.<br /><br />I'm hoping once I adapt to my new schedule I can make it to Panera for the knitting group once in a while! But getting up at 6am is killing me, even though I was up by 7 every weekday over the summer. It's been getting darker in the mornings too, which doesn't help. Mondays are definitely going to be the worst, starting my internship at 7:30am, then heading straight to work for 4 hours until class, which ends at 10pm. I'm sure I'll get used to it soon... :-XRunningOnCoffeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00715671909290199683noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4078896867543637809.post-37282975764649379502008-09-06T23:36:00.005-04:002008-09-06T23:53:45.718-04:00Not at all Knitting Related<p><strong>ACCENT:</strong> Apparently the people of NJ notice my Rochester, NY accent - I don't really know what I say differently though.</p><p> <strong>BREAKFAST OR NO BREAKFAST</strong>: Always breakfast or else my stomach will eat itself.<br /></p> <p><strong>CHORE I DON’T CARE FOR:</strong> Cleaning the bathroom.<br /></p> <p><strong>DOG OR CAT:</strong> Our dog Molly.<br /></p> <p><strong>ESSENTIAL ELECTRONICS:</strong> Digital Camera<br /></p> <p><strong>FAVORITE COLOGNE:</strong> Victoria's Secret Angels Heavenly<br /></p> <p><strong>GOLD OR SILVER:</strong> Gold - the white kind.<br /></p> <p><strong>HANDBAG I CARRY MOST OFTEN:</strong> Always my Vera Bradley wallet, the bag I throw it in changes a couple times a week.<br /></p><p><strong>INSOMNIA:</strong> Never</p> <p><strong>JOB TITLE:</strong> School Psychology Intern + Graduate Student + Financial Aid Graduate Assistant<br /></p> <p><strong>KIDS:</strong> Not for at least a couple years.<br /></p> <p><strong>LIVING ARRANGEMENTS:</strong> Apartment with husband and dog and my yarn<br /></p> <p><strong>MOST ADMIRABLE TRAIT:</strong> Sense of humor?<br /></p> <p><strong>NAUGHTIEST CHILDHOOD BEHAVIOR:</strong> I apparently went through a butt-pinching phase when I was around five?
